Bleuet de France presentation and interview with paralympic athlete Thomas Laronce

This Tuesday, our 9th-grade students had the opportunity to attend a special morning thanks to the Defense Partnership. The event began with a presentation of the Bleuet de France, a symbol of memory and solidarity, followed by a video conference with Corporal Thomas Laronce, a Paralympic athlete.

The Bleuet de France embodies the duty of remembrance for soldiers who died or were wounded in combat. This organization has been assisting veterans and victims of wars and terrorism for over a hundred years. In preparation for the November 11th commemorations, our students learned about its history and its role in French society.

One of the highlights of the morning was the virtual meeting with Thomas Laronce, a military member and Paralympic champion. In 2013, a serious motorcycle accident changed his life when he lost a leg. Thanks to the Bleuet de France, he received a prosthesis that allowed him to return to high-level sports. “Sport has made me rise from my ashes,” he shared during his talk with the students. By taking up sitting volleyball, he has participated in several international competitions, including the Invictus Games and the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.

For nearly an hour, our students listened to and interacted directly with Thomas Laronce. His humble presentation deeply touched the students, who asked questions about his journey and the challenges he overcame. In the presence of the French Ambassador, the students were made aware of themes such as resilience and the importance of fighting for one’s dreams, and they joyfully reflected on the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.

This exchange with Thomas Laronce is part of a series of actions carried out by our institution within the framework of the Defense Partnership. We aim to provide our students with unique opportunities for reflection while raising awareness of contemporary issues. This morning will undoubtedly remain a highlight of their educational journey, and we hope, a source of inspiration.
