Camille Witsø Brod, a 5e student at the LFO, won the Norwegian Optimist Championship held in the Oslo fjord over the weekend of September 23-24. She climbed to the top of the podium, accompanied by her sister and three other members of her team.
Camille has been sailing optimists since she was 8 years old at the Bundefjorden sailing club. She discovered her passion for the sport after joining her sister, who was already practicing optimist sailing and regattas at the club. She hopes to continue training and racing in Optimist until she is 15. Her goal is to train hard enough to take part in the next Optimist World Championships.
15 is the maximum age for this small dinghy. Camille doesn’t want to stop there, however, and is already thinking about her future pursuits – wingfoil or wingsurf, a water sport that involves navigating on the water using a board, a foil (a water wing) and a wing (sail).
Her inspiration? Victor Lööf, Norwegian Optimist champion in 2022 and top-level Wingfoil rider, whom she has met several times.
We wish Camille all the best and hope her efforts are rewarded!
