One Year 6 class at the Lycée Français d’Oslo is taking part this year in the Children’s Parliament, a national initiative that gives pupils the opportunity to discover how democracy works by stepping into the role of young lawmakers.
Selected after submitting their application at the beginning of the school year, our students are now working on a draft bill based on this year’s theme: protecting children from the risks of social media.
To support their reflection, they had the opportunity to meet online with Vincent Caure, Member of Parliament for French citizens living abroad.
This inspiring and engaging exchange helped them better understand the role of an MP, how the French National Assembly operates, and how a bill is developed.
Next step: the national selection of draft bills.
For the winning classes, the reward is a trip to Paris, a visit to the National Assembly, and an immersion into parliamentary life.
A wonderful civic project that encourages critical thinking, public speaking, and student engagement!
